Wire rope clips must be installed correctly to obtain maximum holding power. The size of the clip should equal the wire rope size (diameter). The wire rope size also determines the number of clips required, the amount of wire rope turnback on which to apply the clips, and the torque needed to properly tighten the nuts. Install the U-bolt section of the clip on the "dead" or short end of the rope, and the saddles on the "live" or long end of the rope. Apply the second clip as near the thimble as possible. Space additional clips equally between these two. Wire rope clips are not related to work loads. The work load limit is determined by the wire rope.
Warning! Do not use clips directly on plastic coated wire rope, since the coating does not allow sufficient gripping force. If used on plastic coated wire rope, the coating should be removed from the area where the clip will be installed. This does not apply to tiller clamps.
Wire rope clips are used to make thimble loops in wire rope and cable. They are available in drop-forged, stainless steel, and malleable iron configurations. Tiller rope clamps are used on coated cable when it is not possible or desirable to remove the coating.
